This basic Jewelry introduction course is taught by one of Rhode Island’s award winning Jewelry designers – Gail Ahlers of Ahlers Designs.
In this class students will learn:
- The rich history of Jewelers and Jewelry Manufacturing in Rhode Island
- Terminology and definitions of Jewelry making
- Hand tooling and basic wire wrapping techniques, to create both, a pair of earrings, and a necklace/pendant
All tools and materials will be provided.
Made from recycled aluminum and your choice of cultured pearls or Swarovski crystal, and Stainless Steel ear wire. Sterling Silver ear wires are available for an additional fee.
You will stamp out and shape the base design, set pearls or crystals into position and secure with adhesive, then with basic hand tooling and wire wrapping techniques, assemble all elements.
Choosing from a selection of pewter pendants, and various semiprecious stones, you will learn the process of hand stamping on metal, basic wire wrapping and hand tool techniques. Each of the charms will then be strung on an 18” ball and chain necklace.
All proceeds will go to supporting The Empowerment Factory’s Youth Programming.
Instructor Gail Ahlers is an award-winning designer, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry from the Rhode Island School of Design, Gail has been an established and respected metal artist, creating jewelry, awards, and sculpture as Ahlers Designs since 1989.
